Fly Fishing the Yuba with Dave Barbieri
Thank you, David Bitton and the Appeal-Democrat for this great feature article!

We're back in action! The Feather River has been producing some very angry adult steelhead (if you can land them). A good percentage of these fish are wild! Most mayfly and caddis patterns will do the trick. The hard part is not so much getting the fish to take your fly, but knowing what to do once you get them on. It's quite a wild ride! Definitely bigger, more aggressive fish than last season. Bring your 3x tippet and at least a 6wt rod. Hooked a few that were worthy of a 7wt. Fishing no bueno!
Well, I said I would keep you posted, but there is nothing to post except these new water flow report links (Sacramento River at Keswick, Yuba at Parks Bar, and all rivers.) Click the links, you will see why there is nothing to report. All of the rivers are completely blown out!
The Yuba needs to be down around 5000 CFS. max, with at least two ft. of visibility, and that's if you are fishing out of a drift boat. The Sac at Keswick should be around 25,000 max. Even the Low Flow of the Feather isn't very "low."
Hopefully the storms we get this week will have mercy on us and be weak. We are supposed to start seeing some sun the beginning of next week. Maybe mid week, if all goes right, we can get out on the river again! Wishful thinking?

Good Fishing OnThe Sac!

Spent a few days on the Sac in Redding last week and had some very good fishing!
We floated from Posse Grounds to Bonnyview and picked up fish all the way down.
Had the most success with rubberlegs and micro mays, but we also stuck some on black caddis.
Flows spiked today which might put fish down for a bit.
But maybe not, I'll keep you posted...
